A Lazy Rainy Summer Afternoon Surprise (Toro)

A lazy Saturday afternoon at the end of summer, a tropical storm too far up north to be dangerous, Ed stopped by to drop off a precious cargo.
An impromptu feast ensued.

Today (8/29), a lazy rainy afternoon courtesy of Tropical Storm Danny, my buddy Ed stopped by in the middle of the rain to drop off fresh Toro and Maguro tuna that his brother George caught fresh.

I have no idea what something like this would cost at the fish dock but on a restaurant we're prob talking $300 worth of Toro (fatty tuna) sashimi - maybe more. There is also a lot of Maguro tuna (in the background).

Wait! we can't eat this with lemon!
- - we need soy sauce and Wasabi instead!

good thing we had a lil jar of dry wasabi powder in the cupboard

add some water

mix well with a chopstick (or your fingers)

and you could either wait 10 min or do what i did!
- dump the mix in a lil soy sauce

slice some Toro

a little naturally sparkling ice cold saki

in a litlle cup (these are actually Lemoncillo glasses) - plain shot glasses will do! (or just drink it from the bottle! lol)

In case you are interested the "naturally sparkling sake" is a drink called Zipang made by Gekkeikan - served ice cold it is crisp, light and refreshing - the best of champagne and beer all in one.

In case you were wondering - this is most all of the Maguro Tuna. we prepared it next day with lemon, crushed salt and pepper, oregano and grilled it... there were actually two other pieces missing from this picture. A piece we had with soy sauce as sashimi - and a piece we saved to have with the rest of the Toro.
